Periodontitis Treatment

We strongly value the importance of detecting gum disease and treating it at its earliest stages.

Gum disease, a.k.a. periodontitis is a serious condition. It can produce consequences beyond your oral health. In fact, gum disease has been linked to many overall health problems, including:

  • heart disease
  • stroke
  • diabetes
  • premature birth

Fortunately, if gum disease is treated early, patients can avoid these complications.  Plus, the treatment methods are less complex and less expensive when the condition is caught early.

Routine dental exams are the best way to detect the early warning signs of periodontal disease. At Tuscany Dental Care, we watch for receding, swollen or bleeding gums and treat them promptly.

Depending on the stage and severity of your periodontal disease, Dr. Duque will recommend the most effective treatment option. We offer a variety of modern methods to eliminate the infection within the gums and protect the future health of your smile.

Dr. Duque is able perform dental scaling and root planing to effectively manage your condition before it threatens your health.

Treatment for Periodontitis or Gum Disease

We offer the latest, minimally invasive treatments for periodontitis.

As gum disease progresses, deep pockets form within the gums, which harbor bacteria and lead to the detachment of the gums from the tooth root. This may eventually lead to tooth loss if not properly addressed.

During periodontitis treatment, we carefully and thoroughly clean the deep pockets of gum tissue, which eliminates bacteria and promotes the reattachment of bone and connective tissue. In serious cases of gum disease, surgical intervention may be needed to effectively restore gum health.

What’s the difference between gingivitis and periodontitis?

The bacteria in plaque build up can cause gingivitis- the inflammation of the gums.

In its early stages, the gums will be inflamed and will bleed when brushing your teeth, but the teeth are not yet affected.

However, if left untreated, gingivitis can advance into periodontitis.

If it does, the health of your teeth can be damaged.

Fighting Gingivitis- Deep Cleaning, Scaling and Root Planing

Dental scaling and root planing is the procedure of choice for early stages of gum disease, or gingivitis.

This is often referred to as a “deep cleaning”. It’s the most conservative and effective method for treating gingivitis.

A scaling and root planing may involve handheld tools and/or ultrasonic cleaning devices to remove plaque and tartar from the root surfaces of your teeth, along the gum line and within the deep periodontal pockets. This eradicates the bacteria that cause the inflammation and infection found in gum disease.

At Tuscany Dental Care, you can trust that our deep cleaning methods are safe and comfortable. Dr. Duque always takes the time to explain the condition of your gums so that you understand your gum disease treatment plan.

Stop the progression of gum disease before you experience major complications.
